It is organized by an organization called Blend, so it's a variety of Latino artists in the area, and it just showcases their different techniques to the art. And in the gallery, we have the Kentucky Arts Council's Uncommon Wealth exhibit, and that is a celebration of their Al Smith Fellowship Award. They've awarded over 100 artists in a 30-year time period, and we have 62 visual artists on display here at the Lyric. This will probably be the only time that this full exhibit is on display at one time. They do plan on breaking it up into minor exhibits and traveling it all over the state. So in mid-February, we're going to have the Lyric's second annual Black History Convocation. The target audience technically is the youth, but it's open to the public, and we're going to have a variety of presenters talking along with entertainment. It should be a good time. So you can rent out our 530-seated theater, or a multipurpose room, which banquet-style, including tables and chairs, can fit up to 250 people. And I'll tell you, beyond figuring out how to dig out your car and navigate those slick roads Potholes have been a real problem And that's where LexCall311 comes in We spoke to Pat Tatum, she works over at LexCall And she says there is something you can do to help patch up those potholes That's this week's How To in Lexington segment Springtime is just around the corner And that means the sun will be shining, flowers blooming And potholes will be rearing their ugly heads And it's started already So far this season, and that's from January 1 of 2014 We've got approximately 800 requests to repair potholes Pat Tatum works at LexCall311, the place you need to contact if you see a dangerous or annoying pothole You can call LexCall at 311, our easy access number Or you can call 859-425-2255 And our hours are 8-6 Monday through Friday This pothole repairing operation is high tech You can report the street problem with your smartphone or by computer 24 hours a day on the website, our mobile app, you can fax it in to us And during our working hours you can actually walk in to our office They can usually make the repairs within 72 hours and they might even exceed your expectations When they're out repairing a request, they might see other potholes And they will fill those while they're out So the repairing sometimes is much more than the requests that are out there And don't forget, LexCall isn't just for fixing potholes They've got you covered on just about anything having to do with city government You can call us to get in contact with the mayor or your council member Or any service request, whether it be traffic, whether it be streets and roads Or your collection, whether it be your Herbie or your Lenny or your Rosie Just call 311 Remember to continue to tune in to Lexington Now for more How To in Lexington segments Well, believe it or not, it is March And that means it's time to break out the green for the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade and Festival This year marks the 35th annual celebration in Lexington of this festival And this year there's going to be lots to do for the whole family Haydn Mille Folger, which is 100,000 welcomes in Irish To the 35th annual All-Tech Lexington St. Patrick's Parade and Festival To be held on Saturday, March 15th at 10 a.m. The parade started back in 1980 and it was a very interesting situation A group of people had recently put together what we now call the Bluegrass Irish Society And decided to have a bit of a parade Nothing very fancy, perhaps maybe a flatbed truck with a little barrel of beer on it Drive around the block, sing some songs and so on And have some good times Because nobody knew how to run parades or anything, it was just a brand new club Well, the folks in Frankfort found out about it And they were planning to have a big St. Patrick's Day Festival in Frankfort And called and said, why don't we get together and just have one for Central Kentucky And then Mayor Jim Amato at the time said, that sounds like a great idea The Lexington Fayette Urban County Government would like to sponsor So between the three organizations, the Commonwealth of Kentucky With Governor John Y. Brown Jr. and Phyllis George The City of Lexington with Mayor Jim Amato And the Bluegrass Irish Society got together and formed the first Annual Lexington St. Patrick's Day Parade And it's been going on consecutively, continually since 1980 It got off to a great start because the Browns were able to get a good friend of theirs By the name of Ed McMahon, of all people, to be the Grand Marshal Once he was named, it became an instant success Everybody wanted to be in the parade It's gained great credibility and it's carried over through the years So we're off again for the 35th year in a row Now the parade and the festival are presented by The Lexington Fayette Urban County Government Parks and Recreation The Lexington Celtic Association And the Bluegrass Irish Society And of course none of this could happen without our sponsorships Our financial sponsors are The primary one is of course Alltech, Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company And our faithful friend McCarthy's Irish Bar has been with us for years And Falcha Irish Imports And Kentucky Renfair and Lex18 And Cumulus Radio We've got a great lineup for the parade We've got animals, we've got llamas, we've got dogs, we've got sheep We've got horses, lots of horses this year Two bagpipe bands Very unusual units One for example from Life Adventure Camp Is a group that are going to be doing vaulting on horses coming down Main Street I don't know if you've ever seen vaulting but it's really interesting It's a group of people doing gymnastics on a horse Moving down Main Street Now, Boston, New York, eat your heart out I'm sure none of them have vaulting in their St. Patrick's Parade Nor do they have a group of collie dogs herding a flock of sheep down Main Street Again, eat your heart out We've got a unique parade All kinds of fun, lots of units All kinds of great stuff Things that are really kid friendly And we're looking for a wonderful day with terrific weather like we had last year On March 15th we will have the Alltech Lexington St. Patrick's Parade and Festival
