It is a very special occasion for which we are gathered today. And I really appreciate all of you taking the time to to be here. Even though it is a special occasion, it is something of a bittersweet occasion. Today we are replacing an outstanding member of our urban County Council, Richard Maloney. Richard has undertaken some new duties in Frankfurt, and I'm very pleased for the Commonwealth of Kentucky that he will have the opportunity to serve at the state level now. But rest assured, those of us who have had the opportunity to work with Richard in the past will certainly miss the opportunity to work with him in the future because he was a delightful person with whom to serve. He vigorously represented the interests of his constituency and his his smiles and the energy he brought to serving on the council will certainly be missed. However, we have someone who's going to bring a lot of that same energy, a lot of that same dedication to representing the interests of the constituents of the 11th Council District to replace Richard. And it is a pleasure for me now to ask Peggy Henson if she would come to the podium. It is a pleasure for me, Peggy, to present you with your appointment as a member of the City Urban County Council. And congratulations. All that is left to make it official at this stage of the game is for the oath of office to be administered. And Peggy has requested that District Judge Joe Bevere perform that honor. So Judge, you come forward. Please raise your right hand and repeat after me. Aye. Aye. Peggy Henson. Congratulations. This is a first for me, believe me, but I do want to say how grateful I am to Mayor Newberry for appointing me to represent the 11th District. It's a place that I've lived my entire life, and it's truly an honor to be here. I promise to work hard and to do the best I can to represent my neighbors from one end of the district to the other. It's my home, and that's where my heart is. We were lucky to be so well represented by Richard Maloney for so many years, and we owe him a great deal of thanks. Through our, through my community involvement, I worked with Richard for about 20 years, worked very closely with him and got to know him well. He set a good example, and like me, I will be accessible to all the residents and will be responsible, responsive to their needs. I am very excited to take on a new role and eager to get to work. It may take me a little time to learn all the ropes, but I appreciate everyone's patience. I'm, I can assure you that I want to be here and that I am a capable public servant, a strong leader and a strong leader for the residents of the 11th District. And I want to thank my family, friends and co-workers and all the residents of the 11th District that have been so, so supportive of me. And I really appreciate the help and support. But thank you again, Jim. Mayor Newberry. I do want to recognize Peggy's family who's here with us today. And thank you all very much for all of the support in the past. I would just hasten, Dad, you ain't seen nothing yet because you're going to have to support a lot more as I think all the other members of the council will tell you. It helps to have a lot of family support at home. And I know you'll provide that for Peggy going forward. We have a work session in just a little bit and we'll put Peggy to work at that time.
