Next on the agenda is the final review of the Woodland Park Kiptu Taurus Project application. The conceptual review was August 21st and we had some questions and he's come here today with his revision and those are also included in your packet. Kiptu, would mind coming to the podium, introducing yourself and we'll proceed. Good afternoon, everybody. My name is Kiptu Taurus. I'm from Nairobi, Kenya and I propose the Woodland Melting Pot Project. Okay, so there's a revised budget in addition to a revised proposal. Would you mind just going through, I know that two of the, I'm going to read what the requested revisions were from our meeting summary. The conceptual approval was, let me see, you were requested to supply additional material that's more in line with the final scope of the project, both in terms of using two trees and the engineering. And there was also a request for a budget, amending the budget. So would you mind just going over some of the changes that you made in the new proposal? Yes, so the design for my drawing, the past snag of the tree brought issues about the vulnerability of the individual vessels that would be like pouring into it. And so after problem solving that, I came up with another piece of snag that is already at my studio, which is sizable enough, but the difference is that this one is really structural for the purposes of actually having all those vessels to be able to stand and be able to actually spread as it is suggested by the drawing. So what the design shows is we'll be having the initial snag in situ that is at the woodland park, and then we'll set that on top of the previous one. So the vessel portion at the bottom is the snag that is at woodland park. Yes. In the ground. Yes. And the pictures that you gave us of the piece at your studio, that's going to be the structure that's coming out with the pots. Yes. Are the pots going to be shaped out of those pieces, or is something additional being added to the ends of those? It's from that. It's going to be carved into that. Yes, I'll carve that from the very one piece there. Okay. Yeah, that's on top. All right, thank you. So really, you might just have to break this down further, because in the drawing it looks like there's some quite lengthy branches, or the water, whatever's coming out of that, so it looks like it extends for long areas of time. So that would also be carved out of this? Yes. And about how large in circumference are those pores? It would be probably like five inches wide of the pore, and probably at least 10 inches of the vessel itself. Okay. Yes. So twice that. And honestly, the way I'm going to be carving this, really, as you look at the drawing itself, really does not define or represent the exact way, because the tree will actually be the ones to determine what's going to happen. But the one thing is that, I'm going to tell, is that the way you're seeing the vessels, they're going to be interconnected with the water and the vessels themselves. So it's really not going to be like really one long pore going down. The stems of each other will be getting to each other to actually increase the stability of the tree. That is a visual concept of what it looks like, but my main aim is actually to make sure this thing is solid as one piece. So there won't be negative space in there? There will be negative spaces, but they will be joining each other on different angles to actually be this one solid piece. Yeah, it gets pretty complex. Anyone else have a question? Come in. Maybe it's just me. And then I understood that the bottom of the vessel had root. There was the existing root structure? Yes. Okay. Because in there, it looks like it's on logs or something. Yes, there's existing root structure to it. So it won't really be elevated? No. I'm thinking that based on the images of the top piece that you have already, it just won't be as elongated, probably, as the drawing. When you see the tree, it's actually a big, tall tree. And the existing one, too, is also a tall one. So the existing one is probably going to get half of that from where the big, you know, you can get the belly of the whole, the melting pot itself. But the other one that is going on top is probably 12 feet as we speak right now. Yes. It's still going to be pretty large. Yes. Yes. Wow, that's deceptive. And how tall is the one at Woodland Park? That one is like 14. Wow. Okay. So where will you be doing all the carving at Woodland Park? Well, I'll do the one that's going on top at the studio. And then the one will be definitely on site, get that done. But then, you know, we'll just have to bring it with the trucks and all the machineries with that. Yeah, because then if you've got dowels. Yes. You got to line it up just right. All right. How many, two of the rods? Yes. Any other questions? Is Houston going to help you do the engineering part of that? Well, so that is the guys who will be helping me to move the pieces itself, the moving company, the trucking company. But the last time I talked with Nathan, he told me, like, the city has got a really good machinery in terms of how to move all that. And, you know, if we can have it, have them help me place it in place because they have the boom trucks. And we've been using that to move most of my pieces, actually, for the Lexus projects that we've been handling. Oh, so the piece at Ashland was moved by the city? No, that one was there. Oh, that was there. Okay. There's a tree that's existing there. I'm thinking about, one example might be the piece that's now outside the Lyric Theatre. Yes. Again, moved to a city site. The one that's on Richmond Road past Manowar is still near the cities. Oh, right. And the one, too, at a sales road. In front of Global Lex. Yes. So if we can, from the LexArts perspective, we ask. We ask nicely. And if the city folks are able to do it, then they do. And if they can't, then they can't. And there are other people who have boom trucks. But we have a relationship at LexArts with whatever good-hearted part of the city that is. I've got a couple questions on how you connect the two. The dowels seem really good size, inch and a half. But one suggestion. Have you had a structural engineer make these recommendations? Or who's made the recommendations? That is actually from Gary Bibbs. Okay. Yes. It strikes me that you could probably go down in size on the diameter, but put three as if it's a stool. That way, from any direction. Otherwise, there's a weak axis if you just have two dowels together. So it may be worth considering having three that are one-inch rods, for instance. That way, a force from any direction, it takes the same load, horizontal load or lateral load. Do you know how much the top section is going to weigh, approximately? It'd be probably two tons, three tons. After it's been carved out. Yeah, there's quite a bit you've got to carve away, right? Yes. Yeah. So that's a pretty good load. So I don't know that there'll be big lateral loads on it, but you may consider kind of like a three-legged stool approach. Yes. I make that amendment. So then the total height is now what? The total height would pretty... So we have like 12 and a five, at least, on the bottom one. So looking at 17. Any other questions, comments, concerns? No. Yes. Most of it will be measuring, really, to just have the precise placement of it. Yes. Yeah, it involves a lot. Absolutely. Yes. Definitely. So the dowels go up into the second piece, about a foot? About three foot. It looks like on this drawing, on the other drawing, could we see the locking system? Yeah. So it looks like it's two feet that's sunk down into the... Yes. ...second piece, but then about a little more than half of that is where how far the dowel goes up. So you're about a little more than a foot. Yes. Yes. Yes. You can see, like, the way the dowel goes up. It's wedging into it for it to actually be stable into, but still we have the dowels coming, like, a foot and something going down, like, three feet. And we talked about... I need to refresh my memory. We talked about an engineer I'm just wondering if we need... Chad, maybe you could answer this. Do you think that we should have an engineer stamp on this, or do you think... I mean, Gary Bibbs has done this a lot, and it's definitely a professional, you know, a highly regarded professional opinion, but I don't know legally if... what our liability is. Well, Mike requested engineering in the first... Yeah, but that's not in the... here, using two trees, it doesn't say an engineering stamp. I don't recall offhand whether or not we would typically require an engineering stamp, according to our bylaws. I know we have certain certification requirements in there. We can check on that and get back to you, but unfortunately, I don't know offhand. I'm sorry. That's okay. But you certainly could require a certification if you wanted to, if you thought that was necessary. I'm just looking at the minutes, and it says... it's underlined that Mike McKay made the motion that the application has conceptual approval with the addition of artists supplying additional material that is more in line with the final scope of the project, both in terms of using both trees, and then it says, and the engineering. He was clear on the tape that he did not... his motion did not require a stamp. I think Mr. Torres might have actually asked him that, and he said, I'm not saying it needs a professional stamp, but I want to see how it's going to all fit together, so... So there's not another word after engineering. It just... it says, and the engineering. Yeah, and it almost looks like it stopped. Yeah, yeah. But that's what was said, yes.
