I did a lot of thinking and praying about you all today just so you know in case you felt really good today I'll take credit for it. Because the job that you do is so important and it means so much to so many of us. And at CHI St. Joseph Health we're carrying the tradition of the sisters who arrived in 1877. So 143 years ago we came to Lexington. A little house on Linden Walk is where the hospital started. And we were caring for the most uncared for people that Lexington had at that time. Folks who had no other health care. And so now things have changed a lot. And we are your partners and your neighbors and we are here to help and to serve in any way possible. So I'm so grateful for the chance to be here with you tonight. So because this is your first meeting of the new year I chose a reflection that's about newness. And it's written by Ted Loader from a book called Gorillas of Grace. Breathe into us the courage to make something new. Thank you for the gifts that are gifts and not rights. Forgive us for the grievances we remember too well. Save us from the self-pity, self-seeking, the fat-heartedness which is true poverty. Guide us if we are willing and drive us if we are not into the hard ways of sacrifice which are just and loving. Make us wide-eyed for beauty and for our neighbor's needs and goodness.
