And I want to take a moment to say a couple of things about Ray Sabatini, whom we lost over the weekend. And many of us remember him when he was the director of corrections here for our urban county government. And he was admired all over the United States for his knowledge and his ability to put into practice best practices. And then when it came time to build our new jail, he visited jails all over the country to ensure that we got the best plan and design for what was most effective. And he was a wonderful man. He was beloved by many people. He not only had his expertise in operating our jail, he was a wonderful cook. He was a fine gentleman, and he'll be missed by many people. Chrissy Stambaugh, Michelle Kseniak, Battalion Chief Derek Roberts, Firefighter Jerome Brown, Fire Station 20 all attended the Stonewall neighborhood meeting last night and they were a big hit. So thank you to everybody. Thank you, Mayor. Thank you, Councilmember Gray. Thank you, Mayor. First of all, I would like to say thank you to my colleagues who attended the Youth and Government Day. I'm just going to go down a huge slew of thank yous. Thank you to Commissioners Nancy Albright and Casey Allen Bryant for attending and speaking with our young people. along with Mayor Linda Gordon, a special thank you to Kelly Farley, E911 Director Janelle Patton, Chiefs Weathers and Wells. As well, a huge thank you to our LexTV team for making our first Youth in Government Day a success. And also, of course, a thank you to Fayette County Public School Superintendent Demetrius Liggins for saying yes. Because of course, I have a lot of big ideas for us. And getting our youth involved with our local government was a big dream of mine, a dream and a goal. And so thank you to everyone who showed up for our youth. A special thank you also to our legislative aides as well who showed up to support me in making that day a success. The youth are still talking about it. It was such a big, made a big impact on their lives to be able to sit up here where the council members sit and have their own mock council meetings. So thank you. Huge thank you. Next. Thank you to this past weekend. I attended the Park and Recs kite event in Masterson Station. So Council Member Lynch, I was in your second district. Awesome job there. Thank you to the team of our employees for making that such a huge success. It was great to hear so many different languages spoken, which was descriptive of how diverse Lexington is. That's myself and my niece flying a kite there. We had so much fun. My niece had a blast and wants to fly kites every day now. And next, I would like to say thank you, a huge thank you to, let's start off with Park and Rec's Advisory Board members, Victoria Meyer and David Lowe, to Director Jim Duncan and Chris Avila, to West Sector Matt Brotherton and East Sector Sergeant Andrew Strong. And last, a large thank you to the residents of the 6th District for showing up in large numbers. Over 50 residents of the 6th District showed up for our district-wide meeting, which hit a record for us. And thank you for showing up, residents, and asking your hard questions about the violence that has been taking place in Brookwood. And asking for more flock cameras in our district. It's an outpouring of support of the flock camera system in the 6th District for sure. they're asking for more and earlier today i had the pleasure of attending a press conference for our young people i'm looking for my notes because i want to make sure i say everything properly and i don't have my notes but congratulations to uh to i was going to say the names of the young people to michelle moore and i believe it's aileen um sandoval um sandoval cano for being the recipients of the be the chain scholarship so thank you to galls and thank you to one lexington for providing opportunities for our next generation of leaders to go into the criminal justice system so these young people actually met them at bryan station high school earlier in the school year where i'm I spoke with the Sisters Keepers group, and they're just so excited about this opportunity being provided to them. This is an opportunity to create generational wealth, create opportunities that they never knew were possible. So congratulations to these young people, and thank you to One Lexington for providing this opportunity for two wonderful young people who, basically, you've opened the door for them. So thank you. And congratulations, young people. And congratulations to your parents as well. Thank you. Thank you, Mayor. Thank you. And one last thing. I met Ray Sabatini when I was in fourth grade. I had the pleasure of having Miss Sabatini as my fourth grade teacher at Northern Elementary School. And to this day, I remember having their pizza. That pepperoni pizza is still the best. And I've been looking for Mr. Sabatini and Ms. Sabatini to say thank you. Was that from his restaurant? Yes. Uh-huh. So, Ms. Sabatini, I love you and I think of you often. And I'm thinking of the family and I'm praying for you. Thank you. Thank you. Vice Mayor Wu. Thank you, Mayor. I think we got some pictures. This past week I had the pleasure of checking out two very new facilities here in Lexington. A bunch of colleagues and I ushered in the ribbon cutting at the new Baptist Health Hamburg, $250 million facility and a long time coming. My colleagues and I and a few of us got to do a little tour of the facilities as well. There's an MRI machine to all state-of-the-art facilities, ER room there. So currently it is an outpatient facility only with an ER, a surgery center, and a cancer center. If you back up one, that was the highlight of my tour. In their vending machine room, you can actually get Chinese dumplings out of a vending machine. That I kind of want to see, but I don't know if it's worth the trip to the ER to experience it. But yeah, it's a great facility and great to see such world-class high-tech facilities. And then soon they'll be building onto that with some actual beds to make it a true hospital. And then I had originally missed the ribbon cutting on the Marksbury family branch of the public library, but I got a little tour of it yesterday, and it was beautiful to see so much natural light and all kinds of really interesting facilities like this maker space where there's a lot of 3D printing going on, some stuff that I would like to learn actually personally as well. There's me and everybody's favorite godmother, Dolly Parton. But just such a beautiful space and staffed up with such great, passionate employees and who really understand the evolving, changing nature of what a library is. Public libraries are no longer just spaces where you can go get books. They're really community centers, outreach centers, resource centers, safe spaces for students after school. One of the things we talked about was how it was serving that neighborhood and its predominantly Spanish-speaking residents. So great job all around and really proud to have both these great institutions here in Lexington. Thank you, Mayor. Thank you. Council Member Lynch. Thank you, Mayor. This past weekend had a flurry of activities in the second district. And the first I will highlight will be Kite Fest. Thank you Councilwoman Gray for coming to visit with your niece and flying a kite. It was extremely windy, so it was a perfect day, a sunny day for Kite Fest. A big, big, big, big shout out to Parks and Recreation for having another successful Kite Fest. I feel like it was bigger and better. We had more folks attend than even last year, and last year was pretty awesome. And I also would like to thank our Division of Environmental Quality and Public Works for giving me some really great swag for the kids. Second to the kites that Parks and Rec were making sure that all of our neighbors had. I had the pleasure of having bubbles that were provided to me by our EQPW division. And those bubbles were the hit of the day. Just about every kid that came to my table got a wand of bubbles. And the cool thing about it is that the bottle is refillable and the recipe for the bubble solution is on the bottle. So parents can, once the kids blow all the bubbles and use all the liquid in the bottle, the parents can remake the bubble solution and give it right back to their kids to make more bubbles. And so the kids loved the bubbles, so we should invest in more bubbles. Make the kids really happy. It was a great event. Again, thank you Parks and Recreation for a very fun time at Madison Station Park. Secondly, I'd like to remind my neighbors that tonight is our district wide meeting. It will be at 6 PM at the STEAM Academy on Georgetown Road. So, hope to see you there this evening and bring all of your wonderful questions, especially your ones about traffic on Leastown Road. And then I would like to also acknowledge that this is April and it's Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. So I would like to encourage my neighbors to learn more about the awesome opportunities that our city has regarding providing support to our survivors of sexual violence. If you are not sure what to do, one awesome thing you can do is to get trained in Green Dot. We have an awesome city employee, Don Runyon, who will train you regarding Green Dot and how to be an active bystander for your friends and your family here in the community and protect them from sexual violence. You can do that, you can volunteer at Ampersand, our local rape crisis center. They can always use more volunteers. And then lastly, bare minimum, we could teach consent to our kids, to our families, even our elders because not everyone knows that we have autonomy of our own body and we should be respected in that autonomy. And we should not be just physically touching each other without getting permission first. So consent is the bare minimum. So I encourage you all to get active in sexual assault awareness and prevention months events that are going on around the city. And then lastly, one thing I almost forgot, I want to give a shout out to Principal Marsh at Sandersville Elementary School on Saturdays several school staff, volunteers, families, and elementary school students did kind of a landscaping cleanup of the Sandersville Elementary School grounds. It looks really, really good. Thank you, Principal Marsh and the students and the families for making that investment in our neighborhood school at Marston Station. A big kudos to you all, the school looks wonderful. And that is all I have, Mayor. Thank you. Councilmember Fogle. Thank you, Mayor. First district has been really busy also. I'll start off with the forestry at home that was at the Living Arts and Science Center. We'll get to the videos in a minute. But there were trees, each family could take five trees and then toward the end you could take as many trees to plant as you wanted. And so I took some to the Oakwood Neighborhood Association last night. They were very happy and receptive. So I wanted to start with that. But let me go ahead and do that video before I complete the rest of the announcements. Yesterday, nationally, in the Supreme Court, they were trying to decide if House Bill 5 was going to stand. And if you've read anything about House Bill 5, One of the sections that I focus in on is the criminalization of homelessness. So yesterday at the Catholic Action Center, and you can roll those videos, those photos. Yesterday at the Catholic Action Center, folks showed up in love. Bishop Stowe opened the session. We had gospel singing and we had music that was playing and People were able to sit and listen to folks who are unhoused. House Bill 5 is probably one of the most hideous rules that the state has ever passed, giving businesses and homeowners the right to do bodily harm to folks who are sitting or comes on their property without prosecution that's inside that bill. So I don't know where the rest of those photos are, but you all can just look at the collection of photos that's there. It should have been about ten photos, but that's okay, we'll provide those later. So I'll just move on with my announcements. Tonight, there is a rally near Douglas Park Poo. It says free lunch and free play for kids, put on by the neighborhood associations. So I wanted to announce that, it's from 6 to 6.30, next to the Douglas pool that will be there as soon as they put the concrete in, the pool, and the water in the pool. So I wanted to announce that. And then I stumbled upon JL's destiny, is a hope engagement that will take place Sunday, April the 28th, 2024 from 2 to 4 at the Northside Library, lunch will be provided. What they are uplifting is children with autism. And so they're asking the community to come out and support and learn more about children with autism at the Northside Library between 2 and 4 on Sunday, April the 28th. So a big thank you for the folks who came into the community. And just a little thing, I send my love out to Ray Sabatini. I was part of that crew that helped build that jail. That was before I got a bed inside there. But anyway, I was on the cleanup crew. And then all of a sudden I was in the unit. So anyway, so thank you Ray Sabatini. And our major back then was Glenn Brown. So with his leadership and him spending time talking to me and just guiding me through and just reminding me of the greatness that God placed in me, gave me that start of my turnaround in life. So for Ray Sabatini and his family, that is a big loss to the community, but he served well. He served well, and so that's my report, Mayor, thank you. Yes, he did. Thank you. Council Member Sevigny. Thank you, Mayor. And you were going so quick through the stuff, I forgot to ask a question on item number five. And it's the ordinance on the trailer, truck and trailer. So if someone from planning or law could just answer this question. It looks like it was voted. We've got our commissioner. Oh, yeah, commissioner. Thank you. It was voted a disapproval. so if just tell us when we end up voting for this um will you kind of give us instructions or how on this one do you or do we vote with it if we agree with them or what well you you will ultimately either have to separate this out so that you vote no on the agenda item because as is customary it's placed on your work on your agenda in a positive manner it's an ordinance amending the zoning ordinance so you would vote no the other thing you can do if you prefer is to on thursday night you could make a motion to amend that item so that a vote of yes would mean that you're disapproving okay the ordinance but you will need to do one of those things to make sure you're not inadvertently approving something that you did not intend to approve that's what i just wanted to make sure because sometimes we do move quickly so thank you so much we'll we'll be on lookout for that and then a couple quick announcements friends wolf run is having their annual meeting and volunteer day this Sunday at Preston Springs Park at one o'clock join us out there and lastly in the music capital of the world it all starts again in district 10 tall sound music series kicks off this Sunday at 6 at Alika Shrine green space it's gonna be about 80 degrees you guys could be a great great night to just kind of chill with some friends so come on out to the 10th and hang in And hang with us listening to some music. We'd always call it the Rolex three-day event, but it's no longer the Rolex three-day event. It's the Defender, and I don't know what that means yet, but I guess I'll find out when I get out there. But as you know, this is international. These are horses from all over the world. And if you've never gone out there for this, it's really a treat. And you'll see a lot of really cool activities and, of course, the horses. Next Wednesday, May 1st, Imagine Lexington and consultants will be hosting an urban growth festival and design workshop. It's going to be at the Whitaker Family YMCA from 5 to 10. And I encourage all residents, particularly in the 12th district that will live near some of our new expansion areas to attend and provide input. That's next Wednesday the first. Also, I was just going to mention, I was also at Catholic Action Center yesterday and Council Member Lynch and obviously Council Member Fogel. And it really was pretty moving to watch us all come together and talk about this House Bill 5, which is kind of ludicrous, but that's my personal opinion. And then the other thing is, thank you Vice Mayor Mu about sharing about Central Baptist Hospital. because that mayor was out there. And it was really cool at the end, they had this big thing in the lobby of the hospital, you know where you stand on it, they turn it around and you got video of us. So I posted mine on Facebook page, on my council page, if y'all wanna see us. But we still have fun when we go to these things. And that's all I have, thank you mayor.
